Congratulations!!! | ||

Your introduction to this topic is one of the more moronic I have ever seen on EZBOARDS!!! And that says quite a bit!
Try again-- This time, explain what you are really trying to say and ask-- and do it without accusations or name calling, etc. It could be a VERY interesting topic-- STL obviously has problems in this area. Here is a starter for you: Eric Vickers once said that STL may have benefitted from a race riot. Not because of violence or anything like that, but because it would have shown people how serious the situtation is... Opinion? |

Sorry... | ||

Calling your post "moronic" was stupid of me-- but my point is: please bring up something to discuss!

Racism runs rampant in St. Louis
|
The reason there can be no solutions to the racism problem in St. Louis is because the black americans aren't doing anything to help the situation. Focusing on one incident of white v. black and then fingerpointing at all of us like we support it is going to do nothing but turn whites against blacks.
The only thing I can say is stop fingerpointing and those of you who live in East St. Louis, do something about that city and clean it up! |

Racism in St. Louis | ||

The racial situation in the U.S. won't begin to improve until 2 things happen:
(1) Whites acknowledge that the the white race is at least partially responsible for the situation that the black race find themselves in. (2) Blacks acknowledge that the black race is at least partially responsible for the situation that the black race finds themselves in. |

I agree, we have to work together instead of fingerpointing. A lot of us just need to grow up.

Race problems | ||

As a black man growing up North Saint Louis, I realized what was going to be my destiny, was going to be my desire. I have heard the Democrats for thel ast 25 years promise that if you elect them they will they will help you (the Black man) out of your poverty. And I have heard the Republican tell me that if I would just follow thier blueprint for success that I would be free and well off financially, but they are usually too busy helping themselves to the pie to pass the plates..
Whatever you want, you have to get no matter how hard it is to obtain, you have to choose the course come hell "and' high water. Politicians only want your vote not your vested interest, with your vote they can succeeed and secede from the rest of us. When is the last tme you saw a politician leave Washington and spend most of his/her time in his/her district? You can have anything you want if you want it, truly want it. You can not have everything you want because their is not enough time in the world to do all of that and besides you lose your focus, and you are the master of nothing if you do!! Race problems are because it makes ongoing issues for the idiots in Politics. The real issue is on the hearts of all of us, for the most of us we care about everyone else, unfortunately the politicians and media think we are incapable of living and loving unless they can show us how. Focus on you, and your neighborhood, and local issues and development and we will all be successful....... Hammerhead Berry |

St. Louis has hardcore race problems!
|
As a black man who grew up in North and Midtown St. Louis now living in Houston, I can personally say that I have never experienced a city so deeply divided by race to the extent of St. Louis.
I have traveled to many cities in the United States and Caribbean, and the racial tension is always highest in St. Louis. You even have Chicago and Detroit beat. The minute you get off the plane at Lambert, it greets you. (I'll spare you all the stories). I currently live in Houston, and while Houston has its share of racial problems, they are nowhere near the tension of St. Louis'. There are many St. Louis expatriates I know who would love to move back to St. Louis because like me, they truly love the city, but the mentality of some the residents (black and white) is so stuck in 50's and 60's that is sad. If you ever listen to some programming on newblackcity.com, you'll understand my position. And while the picture seems to be getting brighter in regards to inclusion, the status quo (which is white) still runs that place. Why was minority inclusion in MetroLink contracts a hot button issue? Why? Why did Al Sharpton have to come to St. Louis (twice) to intervene in an issue that local powerbrokers (black and white) should have resolved much earlier for the overall health and progress of the community? Don't they see that cities like Minneapolis, Atlanta, Houston, Phoenix, Washington D.C., and New York are kicking St. Louis' butt in almost every category (job creation, housing starts, population growth, corporate headquarters, etc.) because St. Louis is too mired in racial conflict? Who wants to live in such an environment unless they have no choice? You can't even go for dessert in the CWE or the Cheesecake Factory without having an in-depth discussion about race. You hear about it in the news media and radio talk shows. It can be overwhelming to a visitor. Imagine what the thousands of conventioneers think of St. Louis if they catch more than a few glimpses of KSDK or KMOV-TV news. By the time I leave that place, I am relived to be heading back to Bush Country - and I am a staunch Democrat. St. Louisans need to resume efforts (such as Bridges Over Racial Polarization) to help bridge the racial divide there. The creation of other similar programs would help even more. The problem exists, St. Louisans, because no one wants to talk in a civilized forum on a regular basis. Although much is changing in the Gateway City, progressive-minded people will continue to avoid that place like the plague until the racial issues are address openly, honestly, and in a structured, healthy way. As much emphasis as St. Louis leadership is placing on efforts such as BioBelt and getting flights back at Lambert, there should just as much emphasis on improving race relations. St. Louis's future depends on it. |
